Thank you for attending Spring Sing

Thank you to all of the families that came out for our Spring Sing and Art Show.

The weather was quite chilly and we were sad to cancel our potluck lunch, but nothing could dampen the spirits of the teachers and children!

Everyone was decked out in their finest attire! The children did a great job during their concert and the artwork certainly brightened up our walkways and made us all smile!

Ms. Amanda worked with the Purple Peacock students and parents to create a one of a kind quilt! Each square was constructed by a student. The back of the quilt was "squirt painted" last summer during our camp! Ms. Amanda worked very hard to put the entire art piece together! It is spectacular! The class plans to donate it to a local charity. If you know of an organization that would love it like we do please let us know!

Great job everyone!

Enjoy your spring break. We will see you all on Monday, April 1st! (No foolin'!)

We welcome you to our Spring Sing and Art Show

Spring Sing and Art Show

Whope you are enjoying this beautiful spring weather! The children and teachers have explored a lot of interesting spring happenings on our playground. The Purple Peacocks created bird feeders a few weeks ago and Ms. Amanda hung them outside each of the classrooms.

Friday, March 22nd  is our Spring Sing and Art Show. Parents will bring their child to class at 9am like usual.

They will sign them in AND for VPK families - sign the black binder, or “CHOICE book,” for March.

Parents should feel free to dress their child in their "Sunday best," for some great photos.  After the children are dropped off, families can take time to look at all of the great art work in our art show. We will be hanging the art starting at the school office and going all the way down the breezeway to the church.  We plan to hang the art by class so it is easy to find. Each child will have 4 pieces of artwork hanging up.   Around 9:30 or 9:45 you can find your seat inside the church. We hope to provide a guide that will show you where the children will be onstage--look for it in front of each classroom. The children will sing 4 songs. They have been practicing A LOT!

After the performance, the teachers will take the children back to their classrooms. Families can sign them out from there. After they are signed out, families can go back to look at the artwork or enjoy refreshments on the playground.
Keep an eye out for sign ups for our potluck lunch.

On the way home, families should stop and collect the 4 pieces of artwork done by their... child. Just unclip them from our gallery! We ask that you wait until you are ready to leave so that all the families can enjoy the art!

We hope that all of the St. Michael's families have a wonderful and SAFE Spring Break! See you April!

Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions!

March Community Service Project

Spring is around the corner and lots of exciting things are happening at St. Michael's Day School!

This month our community service project is to help raise awareness and funds for Children’s Miracle Network benefiting Shand’s Children’s Hospital at UF. Ms Kelly's son, Tyler, is a miracle child ambassador for CMN and will be coming to tell our students what Children's Miracle Network is and who it helps from a child's perspective. We will be selling “balloon” cards to post in our windows and enjoying a bake sale during the month of March! At the end of the month we will have a class celebration in each of the classes in appreciation for helping raise funds FTK (For The Kids)!

Our school is collecting donations for this wonderful charity. You can purchase a Children’s Miracle Network hot air balloon to hang in our window. The suggested donation for each balloon is $1, but you can choose the amount that is right for your family. Your child can write their name on the balloon and your child’s teachers will place it in the window!
Let’s fill our windows with balloons of hope and healing for the children in our community.

Come One! Come All! St. Michael's Day School Family Work Day

WHAT:
You are cordially invited to hang out at the school to help us prune, rake, sweep, paint, clean, organize, and otherwise spruce up our space all while enjoying fellowship, laughs, family, friends, God's beautiful backyard, and the satisfaction that you have improved your child's school!

WHEN:
Saturday, February 9th from 10am until 2pm

WHERE:

The school, silly!

RSVP:
Please sign up on the table in front of your child's classroom and indicate
(a) how many people will be attending and
(b) what tools/supplies you can bring to help out!

We plan to feed you LUNCH so we need to know how many bellies to fill!

One of the many beautiful things about St. Michael's is that it feels like family. The directors and teachers truly love the children that enter our doors every morning. We seek to not only teach them but to make them feel cherished. Our family is holding a work day. Perhaps your own family has these days too. Days when everyone in the family pitches in to help make their home look as wonderful as it feels.

On Saturday, February 9th we will gather to shine the penny that is our school. A few of the things we hope to do are listed below. We hope you will feel welcome to come and pitch in. We want you to know that this day is a great time to visit with other families and with the staff of the school. Take the time to ask your child's teacher what they have been up to in class. Get the scoop on why they came home buzzing about "water beads" or sticking their feet into cotton balls or playing with Jell-O. Get to know the child your child is always talking about. Make plans with another family to have a future play date.

Most of all, help us to improve the place where your child learns and plays!

Thank you!

On Our Wish List

--Spreading mulch around the playground equipment

--Trimming bushes to increase visibility for the staff

--Removing troublesome vines/weeds around the playground

--Cleaning classroom carpets (anyone have a steam cleaner?)

--Organizing/Cataloging the school's library

--Dusting classrooms

--Sweeping sidewalks and pressure cleaning them

--Cleaning/waxing classroom floors

--Washing windows

--Cleaning easels

If you have a special skill or talent please let us know. We may be able to place you a job that is perfectly tailored for you! Also, if you have always wanted to suggest an improvement we are all ears!

In Honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

On Monday, January 21st our school is closed in honor of the memory and legacy of
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Today our school took time to teach our preschoolers about this man and his dream.

Ms. Nita created a wonderful display for the children and parents in the Blue Butterflies room.

Ms. Amanda read a book about Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech. She talked to the children about  Dr. King's legacy. The class was very interested in how Dr. King made changes to our country. They were very thankful that they could go to school with children of all different colors. One child said that even though Dr. King was in heaven we were still thankful for what he did for us. Words like "freedom" and "fair" were used throughout our discussion.

At the end of the book the Purple Peacocks repeated the end of this historic speech.

Enjoy the long weekend but make sure to take time to remember Dr. King and if you get a chance maybe you can share President Obama's inauguration with your children too!

Christmas Pageant

St. Michael's Day School is filled with the glee and delight that is the Christmas Season.

Our teachers and students are participating in many holiday activities: crafts, creating gifts, enjoying special treats, learning Christmas songs, and hearing the story of the birth of Jesus.

We have been practicing several songs for our Christmas Pageant and this week we began rehearsing in the Church.

Our Pageant will take place on Wednesday, December 19th at 10am in the Church.

Reverend Rich will be telling the Nativity Story while several students act out the parts. The rest of our students will stand on the altar and sing songs that help to tell the story.

We hope that everyone will come out to see our performance. The children are working hard and having a lot of fun acting out the story and learning these special songs.  We are sure their pure hearts and voices will fill you with the Christmas spirit.

To the parents of the students of St. Michael's Day School please keep the following information in mind for our pageant:

--Feel free to dress your child in their "Sunday best." We want them to shine as bright as stars!
--Bring your child to class at 9am as usual. Be sure to sign them in and for our VPK parents please also sing the black "CHOICE" book.
--The performance will last around 30-40 minutes.
--After the performance please come to your child's classroom to sign them out.
--Join us in the breezeway to meet a special guest...shhh!!...it might just be St. Nick!
--You are welcome to take pictures during the pageant but please note that the lighting is very dim. You might want to take photos after the performance instead.

We hope you have a safe, healthy, and happy Winter Break. Following the pageant, the school will be closed until January 3rd. Remember to read to your child over the break! There are many wonderful holiday stories to share.

We wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
